Our Pastor

Interim Pastor the Rev. Christy Dowdy will begin at Arlington Church of the Brethren on February 1, 2018. She and her husband Dale, were co-pastors at Stone Church of the Brethren in Huntingdon, PA home of Juniata College.

Now retired, the Rev. Nancy Fitzgerald accepted the call of the Arlington Church on October 19, 2008, to become pastor. The unanimous vote by church members came after a weekend of events during which Pastor Nancy was introduced to the congregation. Nancy began her work at Arlington on December 1 of that year.

Pastor Nancy is a graduate of Murray State University and the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Her studies included coursework on Brethren Belief and Practices through Bethany Theological Seminary in Richmond, Indiana. She was ordained into the Church of the Brethren in 2004, and has served at both the Nokesville and Manassas Churches of the Brethren in Northern Virginia.

Nancy and her husband Larry (Fitz) have two grown children, Melody Foster (and husband James) and Lowell.

Pastor Nancy enjoys engaging the congregation during the interactive message time on Sunday mornings or by inviting shared reflections on art pieces or video clips. In addition to the priority of Sunday worship, she is involved in facilitating two Young Adult groups. One shared with Washington City COB that meets in D.C. on the last Wednesday of each month. The other meets at the Arlington Church on 2nd Fridays and offers childcare. These are times of food and faith reflection. She meets with ACOB’s “Book Worms” when a book is selected. Pastor Nancy also leads the monthly BIG SUNDAY Inter-generational morning (usually 2nd Sundays) which is full of activities.

Pastor Nancy retired and her last Sunday was January 7, 2018.
