The angel spoke to the women: “There is nothing to fear here. I know you’re looking for Jesus, the One they nailed to the cross. He is not here. He was raised, just as he said. Come and look at the place where he was placed.
God, we reflect on the empty tomb at the heart of our faith. We are fascinated to see the ancient church encasing the site where Jesus’ body was entombed and resurrected. Stone slabs removed, candle soot and pigeon droppings scrubbed, titanium mesh inserted into the walls of a 12th century building on 4th century remains in the Old City. To see the rock hewn bench where Jesus’ body was placed is to see “the most alive place in the world!” Let it inspire us to do a little excavating of our faith this Easter, examining and uncovering the layers we have built over and around this symbol of resurrection. Help us remove the slabs of cynicism passed on to us through Christian history and scrub our lack of certainty from the disappointments and deaths we don’t understand. Give us the faith to embrace the promise in the emptiness, that hurt and harm will not have the last word, as we follow Jesus, the way to new life!#ACoBAmen
